Flaring

Why almost every industrial pyrolysis plant is forced to flare valuable energy, and how we break that cycle.

Virtually every pyrolysis operator runs into the exact same barrier: once the kiln reaches its steady operating temperature, an enormous stream of excess pyrolysis off-gas remains unutilized. In a recent operational case, we analyzed an off-gas stream of 250 m³/hr with an energy density of 10,500 kcal/m³. That translates to over 3 MWth of continuous chemical power being flared off into the atmosphere 24/7.

Why can't standard gas engines or gensets run on it?
❌ Severe Detonation & Knocking: Containing over 30% heavy olefins and reactive hydrocarbons (ethylene, butenes, ethane, propylene), the methane number is far too low. Conventional engines suffer heavy knocking and catastrophic mechanical failure.
❌ Air-Fuel Ratio (AFR) Instability: The volatile, rich gas composition makes stoichiometric AFR control impossible on standard engine maps.
❌ Regulatory Bottlenecks: Bottling or transporting the gas is prohibited under local safety regulations, and the electrical grid often lacks export capacity.

The Hydro Puls Direct-Drive (HPDD) Solution:

Instead of treating this off-gas as an unavoidable emissions liability, we monetize it on-site:

1. Knock-Immune Stationary Valorization: By directing the off-gas into a non-reciprocating thermal oxidation unit, we safely harvest the full 3 MWth without mechanical knock limits.
2. Direct Thermodynamic Recovery via HPDD-ORC: High-grade process heat is channeled into an integrated Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) loop for continuous baseload mechanical and electrical power.
3. Clean Vector Coupling: Native hydrogen and thermal enthalpy support on-site ammonia (NH3) conditioning/reforming, supplying our HPDD units to generate direct 600-bar hydrostatic pressure for industrial pumping, irrigation, or heavy actuation.

The Outcome:
✅ Environmental Liability Eliminated: The flare is extinguished, unburned hydrocarbon emissions drop, and bottling permit hurdles disappear.
✅ Pressure & Energy Bottlenecks Solved: Generates direct 600-bar industrial hydraulic force and continuous off-grid power directly at the facility.
