Day 8: Zero-Fuel Descent & In-Flight Water Harvesting

Gliding Energy & Potable Water: Re-Engineering the Top of Descent πŸ’§πŸ›¬

During the standard ~25-minute descent phase of a commercial flight, traditional engines remain spooled up at inefficient low-throttle idle.

HPDD-AERO turns the descent phase into an active energy- and resource-harvesting cycle:

Regenerative Windmilling: During descent, primary HPDD combustion units can shut down entirely. The propellers act as air-driven generators, recharging the high-pressure hydraulic accumulator bank via controlled fluid resistance.

In-Flight Water Harvesting: Integrated exhaust heat pumps chill reaction gases below their dew point, condensing pure water vapor out of the exhaust stream.

1.2 Liters per kg of Fuel: The system recovers ~1.2 L of potable water per kg of fuel consumed, reducing the onboard freshwater storage requirement to a compact 40-liter buffer tank.
