4,000 RT industrial cooling. 2.5+ MWe removed from the local grid. Zero 5-year interconnection queues.
Beyond academic debates on energy carriers, industrial plant operators care about one metric above all: firm, behind-the-meter operational reality.
For a large-scale industrial site in Oklahoma, we are currently finalizing the engineering package for deploying our Hydro Puls Direct-Drive (HPDD) platform:
1. The Operational Challenge:
The facility requires continuous 4,000 RT (~14.1 MWth) baseload cooling for process and turbine inlet air chilling. Conventional electric motor-driven chillers would impose an ongoing parasitic electrical load exceeding 2.5 MWe on the local grid. In a region experiencing severe transmission bottlenecks and multi-year interconnection queues, waiting for grid upgrades directly delays commercial operations.
2. The Behind-the-Meter Solution:
The system is engineered as a modular skid array (4x 1,000 RT) sized within a standard 12-ft Sea Cell envelope.
• Working Vector: 100% anhydrous ammonia (NH3), readily accessible at competitive industrial bulk contract rates via established regional pipelines and MC-331 transport trailers.
• Direct Conversion: HPDD converts chemical enthalpy directly into mechanical work and deep cooling via direct thermo-kinetic expansion, bypassing large electric drive motors and compression trains entirely.
• Parasitic Power Demand: Plummets from ~0.62 kWe/RT (standard market chillers) to < 0.08 kWe/RT (limited to balance-of-plant instrumentation and controls).
3. Permitting & Emissions Advantage (US EPA / NSR):
Because the HPDD core operates exclusively on pure ammonia without hydrocarbons or natural gas, emissions of CO2, CO, soot, SO2, and VOCs are 0.0%. The reaction products consist strictly of pure nitrogen (N2) and water vapor (H2O), dramatically streamlining New Source Review (NSR) permitting under 40 CFR.
When industrial operators can bypass multi-year utility delays and deploy reliable, zero-carbon cooling using existing bulk infrastructure, the bottom line speaks for itself.
