Traditional electronic waste recycling and spent battery processing (black mass) are hitting an environmental and economic dead end: immense parasitic energy loads, aggressive mineral acid consumption, and millions of liters of toxic wastewater effluent.
In close collaboration with Professor Mohamed Amin (Associate Professor at Al-Azhar University, Rutgers University, and University of Debrecen), we are introducing a closed-loop breakthrough in critical raw material recovery:
The HPDD-NEXUS Closed-Loop Urban Mining Complex.
By coupling our crankshaft-free HPDD thermodynamic core with selective fluidic chemistry, we eliminate mechanical ball mills, hazardous mineral acids, and effluent discharge entirely.
Because the HPDD core generates its own continuous on-site power and directly provides the high-pressure inert nitrogen stream required for the cycle, the operational cost (OPEX) approaches €0.
The 4-Step Zero-Waste Recovery Architecture:
1. Supersonic Shock-Pulverization (600 BAR):
High-pressure inert nitrogen gas from the HPDD auxiliary circuit is injected into a sealed impact chamber through specialized supersonic nozzles (>Mach 2.5). The resulting shockwave shatters circuit boards and battery black mass from within, instantly reducing material to a uniform sub-micron powder in milliseconds, with zero toxic dust or mechanical wear.
2. Selective Organic Citric Acid Chelation:
The ultra-fine aggregate feeds into automated reaction channels using an eco-friendly, food-grade citric acid solution. Because supersonic fragmentation breaks traditional mass-transfer limits, extraction runs at a concentrated 1:3 solid-to-liquid ratio, reducing water overhead by 70%.
3. Cryogenic Precious Metal Crystallization (-73°C):
The metal-rich fluid is routed through a vertical separation column jacketed by the HPDD cold expansion circuit, providing 13 kW of native cryogenic cooling. Operating under fractional crystallization thresholds, high-purity Gold and Platinum crystallize out sequentially for mechanical harvesting at maximum molecular purity.
4. Fluidic Nitration & Nutrient Synthesis (Zero Liquid Discharge):
Remaining copper and zinc fractions undergo controlled neutralization, stripping the organic complexes and yielding transport-ready Copper Nitrate and Zinc Nitrate crystals for direct agricultural use as micronutrient fertilizer. The process achieves absolute Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD).
The system enforces a strict Six Sigma mass balance: across a 24-hour cycle, exactly 11.850 tons of input yield 11.850 tons of isolated commodities, agricultural crystals, and recycled working fluids.
Deep appreciation to Professor Mohamed Amin, whose academic and engineering leadership made this closed-loop discovery a reality.
